When is Good Enough good enough?

Poll still open until next Monday.
When is good enough good enough is not a typo. I was reading the newspaper this morning. Layoffs, man shooting family due to job loss... It's obvious that having a job is centre to most people's lives. So employers should not think lightly of laying off their employees.
This Monday there was massive layoffs in corporate America. My sister, J1, whose company was doing well laid off some of its employees. Another film studio predicted loss of revenue and decided to outsource some of its work. Why? So their bottom line will look good. Somewhere along the line, their bonuses and stock prices will reflect that. But wait. When a company is losing money, I can see why it closes door or cut some employees. But there are companies which are making money and still laying off employees! Can't they consider making less profit and keeping their workforce as an investment? Why do they always have to beat last year's profit? Does corporate citizen also have social responsibility? Does Mr. O & Co. have to save the ecomony all by himself?

  1. Hear, hear... totally agree again. Corporate america is cold and full of executives who are selfish and greeeedy. Most of them are middle-aged white egotistical suburban male who think they deserve at least 6 figure salaries and 7 figure bonuses. They are full of themselves and very myopic in their management style. They have no qualms in accepting big fat bonuses even when they don't deserve them.... hey if the board of directors are dumb enough to sign such idiotic contracts, why won't the CEOs take them. Shareholders of all the financial companies in trouble should sue the ceo and senior management for gross incompetency; and sue the board for gross negligence and breach of their fiduciary duties. They should pay return the director fees they have received but not earned. All the financial companies' senior management who has collected millions in bonuses and salaries for the past few years should be fired and sued to return the excessive bonuses they have received but not earned. Thain of Merrill lynch recently defended his action of giving bonus to merrill's executives because he wants to retain the franchise image and the good team! How good can a team be when they have lost billons of dollars in 3 months. Does one really want to retain such losers and issue them great bonuses (and a month early at that...). Yes, Thain has been let go, but frankly, if Ken Lewis is smart, he should go after the bonuses and get them back and sue Thain for fraud... or anything... Thain is the perfect example of the typical cold corporate american middle aged white suburban egotistical male..... too full of himself to recognize the presence of others. Ahhh.... yes I am furious or not? K
