Beach Wedding in Sarasota, FL
I feel the death of UBL stole the thunder from Will & Kate's royal wedding. Don't you think the mad hatters were pretty awesome? Anyway, we were at Sarasota last weekend for a beach wedding. Yeah, it's that time of our lives when sons/daughters of our friends and family are getting married. You may not agree, but it definitely is a time marker.
But I digress. Sarasota is a beachy town along the shores of the Gulf. Not losing any time, we visited the Myakka River State Park and took an air boat tour around the lake. There were a lot of gators and other wild birds. We even saw 2 bald eagles! One could fish, canoe or kayak in the lake. (Not sure why anybody would want to paddle around in the water with the gators!)
We also drove out to Lido Key and browse around St. Armands. It's basically a resort town with shops and restaurants in the four corners of a circular intersection. We ate in a restaurant a little ways from the center and the food was awesome - oyster tasting, stone crab, Florida grouper, chocolate cake with grand marnier ...
The other places we went to eat were along the water's edge with full view of the harbor. The seafood was excellent. Shrimps, scallops, crabs, oyster ... Yeah, we don't worry about cholesterol when we travel. Eat, drink and be merry.
Oh and then there was a wedding ...
